**************** FOR CONSUMERS FROM CIB! EXCESSIVE EXCESSES ON POWER SURGE CLAIMS!

I have been insured with CIB since 2014, and have only ever had one claim ever as a result of power surges. I live in an area that suffers from a lot of power failures, at least one a week, and as a result of this, I lost my fridge and oven in one week.

I have claimed for both, and have just been informed that my minimum excess for claims resulting from power surges is R2000 per claim! And I was told that this is as a result of the claim being a power surge claim, because they have to pay out multiple claims due to power surges...

I fail to understand how me, as the consumer, has to be held responsible/liable for damages to our own possessions because of the lack of infrastructure and service from the municipalities! Especially when my damaged goods have been insured with the same company for 6 (SIX) Years!

There is no way I can afford to pay R2000 on each item to have replaced/repaired. And I do not understand why this task should fall on me when I have been paying premiums for 6 (SIX) years!

I am disgusted.

Reviewer Update
In terms of the above, I have now just been informed that CIB will not be covering my oven claim, as they are of the opinion that same is wear and tear.

I reiterate that it is impossible to lose 2 major appliances in the space of 1 week for any other reason than external influences, but yet again, my insurer is only interested in protecting its own interests and is not prepared to consider the needs and protection requirements of its consumers.

I have never been treated so terribly, and I feel I would be better off being insured by a competitor. If this is how CIB treats its long term clients, I can be grateful that my claim was not for something more serious. I am pretty sure that CIB will now try and find any route to not pay any claim submitted.
