ANNUAL COMMUNICATIONS FEE

I signed up with Chubb in July 2016. I paid all that was expected including the annual communication fee. Then in August, I get this text message saying that my annual communication fee was due on the 1st of Oct. I called them and they told me that the annual communication fee was paid annually in October for the following year. I was not made aware of this. It was my understanding that my next payment was due in July 2017. So basically, I paid in July 2016 for the whole year of 2016, even if I was only using 5months of the service. They said it should have been explained to my by the rep who sold me the contract. i dealt with Astron, and Astron kept shifting me to Chubb and Chubb kept shifting me to Astron. I kept getting promises to be called back, but no one was actually helping me. On 1 October the debit order went through for the annual communication fee and i reversed that debit order. I contacted them again, and I requested their banking details so that I could continue to pay my installments, but I refuse to pay the annual communication fee. i still haven't heard back from anyone. I just dont see why they didn't adjust the initail annual communication fee for covering from July to December and then ask me to pay in October for 2017. It's ridiculous that I must pay for the whole of 2016.

Best regards,
I've just read that. It doesn't stipulate which month. And there is a letter of understanding that doesn't indicate the date either which I didn't sign. And as you all know, reps are so pushy to get things signed that they don't give you a chance to go over the fine print. I asked this rep to go over it and he explained to me what was in there, but like I said, he never indicated that I would have to pay the same annual communication fee AGAIN in 3 months time. Had that been the case, I could have just waited until October to sign that contract.

So I now get an email from Chubb:
In terms of legislation, security companies charge an annual communication link fee when a client joins for a monitoring and armed response service. When the client joins in June, for instance, we do not charge a pro-rata fee as we have to pay the regulatory body the full annual fee and not a pro-rate fee – the same rule applies to all clients.
On the first of October of every year we levy the annual communication link fee for the following year.
It is possible that the sales consultant did not explain the fee in question to you as clearly as he should have and if that is indeed the case we apologise for that.
You have reversed the debit order of 1 October 2016 and your account is in arrears by an amount of R656.00. In order to prevent the suspension of your service it is required that you pay the arrears as soon as possible. Chubb can, unfortunately, not waive the annual communication link fee for 2017.
So, they're telling me that I have no choice but to pay up!
I wish I'd never signed up with them. And apparently reps can say anything to get the sale and the customer ends up with obligations to a company that doesn't give a d*%$#

I received a call and an email from Bernedette, informing me that though Chubb is unable to waive the annual commission fee for 2016, they have agreed to give me 1 month free service in an effort to resolve this matter.
