Never buy a Jeep
I want to express my extreme disappointment and frustration regarding the distressing situation I am facing with 2016 Jeep Cherokee, 3.2L AWD Limited, and the disheartening response I received from the authorized dealership, Arnold Chatz in Johannesburg, South Africa whom I bought the car from. Since acquiring in July 2021, I have enjoyed driving my Jeep, joy has turned to dismay following a recent issue with the 4WD system and subsequent diagnosis at the dealership, highlighting problems with the power transfer unit (PTU). This concern emerged shortly after the 60,000-kilometer service, prompting immediate attention. The dealership quoted an exorbitant repair cost nearing R100,000 for the PTU issues, a financial burden beyond my means. Despite having an extended warranty cover, the insurance could only assist with a fraction of the total repair cost (R35,000), leaving me in a dire predicament. What further exacerbated my distress was discovering that Jeep issued a recall for almost 26,000 Cherokee models in the United States due to a PTU flaw. The described issue involving relative movement between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft, resulting in potential loss of torque transfer between wheels and transmission, aligns perfectly with the challenges my vehicle is experiencing. I approached Arnold Chatz dealership and raised this concern, leading to their suggestion to seek goodwill assistance from Jeep South Africa. However, after months of persistent follow-ups, today I was informed that no assistance could be provided due to the mileage exceeding their goodwill policy limit of 15,000 kilometres. This response is profoundly disappointing and leaves me disillusioned. It's disheartening to find myself in this distressing situation where a single car part's repair cost surpasses a significant portion of my initial investment in this vehicle. Additionally, the assertion that the issue did not occur in South Africa, hence no recall, leaves me without validation or recourse. I find it difficult to comprehend that a revered brand like Jeep would disregard the predicament of a customer in situation.
