Choice Brokers insurance

Rejected claim and cancelled insurance

On the 18th of November 2021, I took out car insurance with Frontline Brokers, and Esther helped me with my policy.

The policy number is C VAN NIEKERK - HRP03950

When I received my contract, I was told the insurance had been activated, and I awaited the first debit order to be deducted.

After the commercial car insurance was purchased, the car was involved in an accident with a family friend, Sunday 21 November 2021.

On Monday, I contacted the broker and they told me to submit documents and information about the accident; I did so.

An accessor declared the vehicle a right off after two months of back and forth with the broker.

Frontline brokers requested I sign and submit many documents, some of which included the change of ownership documents for the vehicle, a settlement letter since the car is bank-owned, and an address where I should send the keys for the smashed vehicle.

Then I had a problem with my debit orders. As a result of a system error on their end confirmed via a WhatsApp voice note, my debit orders stopped going off after two successful debit orders in December 2021 and January 2022.

I received a cancellation notice from my broker on March 4th, stating that the underwriting does not cover commercial vehicles.

My broker informed me that this will not affect my current claim, and I wasn't the only one they had cancelled. Additionally, she advised that the insurance/underwriter can cancel at any time.

On 25th February, three months after I submitted the claim, an investigator from Old Mutual contacted me to interview me, I arranged for the interview and he explained that they do not cover commercial vehicles, he was surprised I had commercial insurance with them, the underwriter Old Mutual. At the time of the accident, the car was still being used for private purposes as the insurance was just a few days old and the plan to use it as a taxi had not yet been implemented. The investigator also wanted to interview the driver which he arranged to meet, however, the driver was delayed but did reach him telephonically.

My insurance claim was voided on the 30th March 2022 and I have been requested to collect my vehicle from the panel beaters it has been at for almost 4 months.

They then refunded my debit orders for the three months before cancellation.

I have decided to now take this matter to the Ombudsman.

The Ombudsman advises that the insurance guys Old Mutual were not made aware of the commercial policy and they dont cover such policies, I should now take my brokers to the Ombudsman.

Choice Brokers are refusing to respond on this matter and I am left with a smashed vehicle.

It's been 7 months plus of back and forth with no solution.

Check your insurance people, go read reviews before settling.
