Will rip you off on your deposit refund

I was renting through Zelpy / Chilli pepper for a period of 4 months. They required a deposit of R4800 for a studio unit. Due to constant power failures which lasted for over 8 hours at a time (only affecting the complex) I had to cancel my lease agreement and paid an early cancellation fee.

When I moved in there were defects which were pre existing and they promised to fix. To which they never did. Their plug points were falling apart, there was a big mark on the wall and the bathroom basin stopped working within a week I was there.

The evening before my move the power was out from 8pm till the next day which offered my packing. I woke up at 5 just to have everything done and cleaned the house before the deadline. Mind you I was told not to worry about scrubbing the house as they have permanent cleaners that will do so after I leave.

The guy ( wErnst Reyneke) who was doing the exit interview was quiet rude. When I told him the defects were there he didn’t seem to care.

On the 10th working day they finally paid back my deposit and they only refunded half of my deposit. I have asked for a statement to which they have not been able to supply. This is a complete ******* as there is nothing in that house that would warrant 2400. My contact Zelda has stopped taking my calls and no one can tell me what I was charged for.

I think I deserve to know what the charge is for.
