Complaint Regarding Refusal of Service Due to Payment With Coins

At Chicken Licken Menlyn Mall. I entered the store with the intention of buying Soulsister 2 vibe . When I attempted to make payment using South African coins (legal tender), the cashier on duty refused to accept my payment. I did not get her name as she was not wearing name badge. She went at back office to ask the manager if they accept coins by the name Gugu because she is afraid to be scold for taking coins.

I was told, and I quote, to "go buy at Checkers and Pick 'n Pay because when they cash up it's going to be a problem."

found this statement to be: Rude and unprofessional Discriminatory - you cannot dictate where a customer should shop ******** - According to the South African Reserve Bank, coins are legal tender and must be accepted for payment. Refusing legal tender is against the law. As a paying customer, I expected to be treated with dignity and respect regardless of the form of my legal payment. Being turned away and referred to competitors has caused me embarrassment and inconvenience.

hereby request: A formal apology for the treatment | received. An investigation into this branch's policy regarding coin payments and retraining of staff on customer service and handling of legal tender. Written assurance that this will not happen again to me or any other customer. I have been a loyal customer of Chicken Licken and hope to continue being one, but this experience has left me very disappointed.
