Chicken Licken Cashing in on Unsusspecting Consumers
This is the query I sent to Chicken Licken for an incident that happened on 8 Nov.
“I went to Chicken Licken Maunde Street, Atteridgeville-Pretoria and ordered a feed my craving meal. Cost - R53.90. Paid R54.00 and change R0.10., which I never received. Now this is not the first time this is happening - hence I am taking the matter up. It’s all about principle. Is it standard procedure that Chicken Licken withholds change regardless of it being 10cents? I did a quick calculation based on 200 stores in South Africa and each store has 100 orders per day.
200 stores x 100 orders per day x 10cents = R2000
Over 30 days = R60,000
Over 12 months = R720,000
Is this money accounted for. Is it declared as a donation? Is it going to a good cause? Is there anywhere in the stores stated that customers will not get their change back? R720k or even half of it is a lot of money. Is this part of your social responsibility?”
On Monday 11 Nov, I recieved one of those standard replies via email that are lukewarm . I later got a call from Mantsha from the branch in question. She admitted that staff keeps doing this and has mentioned it before. I asked for the contact details of the Marketing Manager or MD/CEO of the company and she assured me that they would be sent to my email address.
Today (12 Nov)I sent a follow up email to Careline at Chicken Licken. Firstly she said that the company does not have a Marketing Manager and secondly, the MD/CEO does not deal with such.
I have a problem when consulate taken for granted. If this has been an ongoing practice, is this money taken by employees or is it declared. My calculation is based on 200 stores with 100 orders a day for 12months. So, this “practise” has been going on for years and I (being the consumer) am being brushed aside.
Not impressed at all.
