clutch pedal broke off

I have a Chevy spark 2011 model and the clutch pedal broke off. I went to chev mobeni and was told that it is a wear and tear part. I understand that the clutch plate is a wear and tear part but the clutch pedal should not be. This is the first time ever that I have heard and seen a clutch pedal that broke off. This is a factory fault and should be covered under the warranty instead chev gave me a quote of R10 000. I don't think that this is for my cost and the dealership refuses to take responsibility. I believe that they are trying to rip me off and pass the buck over to me
