Misleading and rude customer services from Henry Budhoo and Rakhi
On the 31/12/2021, my family and I visited the checkstar branch in Whitehouse, Phoenix it was just an ordinary visit as we generally shop at the store every week without failure. We purchased some groceries and I do charity work and on that day I came across a family who had no stove so we decided to buy them a hotplate stove, my hubby went to the aisle to get a stove and it was high up on the highest point of the shelf when my hubby just managed to get one down and also called one of the workers from that store to enquire about the price, he was told the stove was R159.99 ,on the entire top shelf there was gas stoves and hotplate electric stoves both under the price of R159.99 and from where we stood the description wasn’t clear enough and there was two types of stove under the R159.99 price tag ,therefore we called the worker to ask him about the correct price and then we were informed it was indeed R159.99.
When we proceeded to point of sale, the stove that we were told is R159.99 now scanned for R269.99,i then told the cashier this was the price on the shelf and we also called a staff of checkstar just to inquire the correct price and we were told it is R159.99,the cashier then called a lady named Rakhi who happened to be very rude, before she could come to me as she was walking towards me she started asking questions from a distance, like what was the description on the price label?, did you read the price tag? We did advise from where we stood it is hard to see as the price is big and description was small, that was one of the two reasons we called a staff member to confirm the price aswell, she then went to the aisle and came back with a stove a that scanned for 169.99 she then told me there this was the stove for that price tag, I told her that R159.99 and R169.99 is not the same price and I questioned her accordingly but she could not answer my questions, I took her to the aisle to show her the prices and where the stoves are placed, she pulled down the price tag and told me that price is for an electric water bucket ,I advised how could it be when there wasn’t a single electric bucket on sight, we then went back to the till point where I asked to speak to a manager,Rakhi then went to the front desk that is situated at the entrance of the store and called the manager but he sent her to call me to him, we called for him twice but he refused to come to the till point and sent a supervisor named Altaf Khan, I advised Altaf I do not want to speak to him I want to speak to the manager someone higher than him, then the guy that refused to show up came ,he is the store manager and goes by the name of Henry Budhoo, his approach was very unprofessional and the manner in which he addressed me was extremely rude, when I questioned him about why where the stoves placed under those price tags as there were more than 50 of two different types of stoves and there was no electrical buckets, he was starting to get angry, I then asked him if I the customer made a mistake with the price how can a staff member advise me incorrectly aswell,I advised him I will not pay the price of R269.99 but will pay the price I have been told by his staff member he got upset and walked away advising Altaf to call Selvan. Altaf being the supervisor was way more polite than the rude Henry .Selvan Nadasen came to assist me he advised he is a manager there as well, I explained him the situation he remained polite and stated that he will escalate this and get me feedback my Monday the 3/01/2022, I have waited for an entire day yesterday but received no feedback from the checkstar seniors. According to the consumer protection act of 2008 we have been misled. Misleading took place three times one, when a large quantity of two different types of stove have been left under the wrong price tag, two, when the staff member that assisted us advised us of the incorrect price and thirdly when Rakhi also advised of the R169.99 stove being the item for the price tag that reads R159.99. Not forgetting to mention that when I did speak to Rakhi and Henry and advised them their staff told me the price was R159.99 they did call the staff and he admitted he told us it was R159.99 because it was in that place under that price tag, their excuse was in works in the fruit and veg department .in all honesty I am disgusted with the way the entire situation has been handled and what upsets me even more is the fact that Henry Budhoo was having a conversation with another customer telling him that we are making a fuss for a small thing ,my question to checkstar seniors is that how would you guys keep Henry as a manager and in the front desk of customer service when he is so rude and cannot handle a simple situation, even the cashier and packer was more understanding than him. I hated my shopping experience with checkstar, for being a loyal customer we get treated like thrash. I really hope henry is dealt with severely and is taught a great lesson. And to the checkstar management I hope you guys do consider the fact that older people shop at your stores, having big price tags with small descriptions on the highest shelf is just not on.
