R13,000 Excess After Checkers Sixty60 Crash – No Resolution

On the 15th April, I was involved in a motor vehicle accident with a **Checkers Sixty60 motorcycle rider.

The incident occurred while I was exiting a highly concealed driveway with very limited visibility to the right. I proceeded cautiously and when approximately one metre into the road, a Sixty60 delivery rider approached around the blind corner at speed, positioned tight on the inside of the road. The rider was distracted by a lady to the right who was waving a red flag for people cutting trees ahead. Within seconds of my vehicle becoming visible, the rider collided with the front of my stationary vehicle and fell.

The rider was not injured as it was a minor collision. I ensured assistance was provided, including arranging medical attention. A police report was subsequently filed.

Following the incident, I was held liable by the rental company, Hertz, for an insurance excess liability amount of R13,000, which has since been debited from my account.

Given the circumstances of the collision, I do not believe I was at fault and am seeking to recover this excess from the responsible party.

I have attempted to engage with Checkers to resolve this matter and request the following:

Confirmation of the delivery contractor responsible for the rider Details of the insurer handling third-party claims Guidance on submitting a formal claim for recovery of my loss

I would appreciate acknowledgment of this matter and direction toward resolution.
