Disappointing Checkers Sixty60

I just received my grocery order from Checkers Sixty60, and I must say I am thoroughly disgusted.

I usually do my weekly shopping through the Checkers Sixty60 app, and things are generally acceptable, with the occasional mishap here and there. However, today’s experience was truly shocking.

Among the grocery items I ordered was a chicken wrap, which I intended to have for lunch.

After placing the chicken wrap on a plate, I warmed it up and sat down to begin my meal. I immediately noticed that the colour of the chicken strips looked off. Because I was extremely hungry, I decided to take a bite - and instantly regretted it. The chicken tasted hard and stale, and it immediately turned my stomach.

I quickly went onto the app to find out where I could lodge a complaint regarding the chicken wrap. This deeply concerned me, not because of the R34.99 charge for the wrap, but because of the principle behind a Checkers deli serving stale, ready-made food to customers.

Unfortunately, I could not find any option on the app to report a defective product, so I had no choice but to contact Checkers support directly. After waiting on hold for almost 12 minutes, yes, 12 minutes, I was finally connected to an agent.

I explained the situation and expressed my deep concern and dissatisfaction regarding the entire experience. The agent was friendly and polite, but the only assistance she could offer was to process a refund through the app.

I explained to her that this was about far more than just a refund. It is about the fact that one of the Checkers stores appears to have questionable food-handling practices that could potentially make customers seriously ill through unhygienic practices, such as serving stale chicken.

I further explained that I have been a loyal Checkers Sixty60 customer for years, but this experience has unfortunately completely broken my trust in the brand. This is no longer simply a matter of receiving a refund, it is about knowing that there are Checkers stores willing to serve customers substandard food.

This leaves me with almost no choice but to stop ordering from Checkers altogether. In the end, I lose out too, because Checkers was my most trusted grocery store above all others
