Worst service ever
What a disappointment after waiting in anticipation for this brand new store in Drakenstein Centre in Paarl to open, only to have the worst experience ever. On Saturday morning (4 December 2021) my husband visited the brand new store for the first time. He purchased 3 x whole chickens, 2 x packets of baby potatoes and a few extra pieces of groceries. He started preparing the chicken and potatoes to put in the griller, I walked into the kitchen and the worst smell welcomed me. I immediately knew the chicken was off. Upon further investigation we noticed that 2 of the 3 chickens were completely rotten. At that moment we already mixed all 3 chickens with the potatoes and obviously everything was now contaminated. My husband took the 3 x chickens and baby potatoes, with their wrapping and drove back to Checkers as we were expecting family for supper and had to get fresh chicken. In the process of transferring the rotten chicken and potatoes back into shopping bags and sealing the bags (to try and contain the smell as much as possible) he misplaced the receipt of his purchase. He arrived at the store and spoke to the staff, whom called the manager instead. There my husband was standing with 2 bags of smelly, rotten chicken in the middle of the store, and the staff refused to help him. Because he did not have the receipt (he even told her the exact time he was in the store, showed her the payment notification on his phone of where the payment went off with a date stamp to the second, but she just stood there with her arms crorssed and refused to even make the slightest of an effort to try and assist him. She could have made an effort to check the cctv footage as my husband also showed her exactly which till he paid at and who the cashier was that assisted him). Eventually after such a long time trying to get some sort of support and service, it left my husband with no choice but to leave the rotten chicken there and leave WITHOUT fresh chicken and potatoes NOR being refunded for the rotten items he purchased and paid for earlier that morning. This is absolutely disgusting to even think about, and definitely not the level of service one expect from a brand new store that just opened it's doors a few days before. We had to go to another shop and buy these items again (eventually had to pay double for the food we have planned and budgeted for in the first place). I am sure no one has the luxury (expecially after the immense financial impact of lockdown) of throwing away money in such a way like we were forced to on Saturday. I really hope someone from Checkers have a bit more people skill and compassion for others to assist us in this matter.
