Why Is Checkers Blocking Customers From Using Their Own Cash???

I visited CHECKERS SATARI on Saturday, 15 November 2025. We were getting ready for the Bokke game and wanted to grab some alcohol and snacks. Normally, we shop at Sunbury Square because it’s close to home, but my wife spotted a great special online: Cruz Vodka for R269.99 at Checkers.

Thinking I could buy in bulk and stock up for Christmas, we drove all the way to Checkers Sitari, only to be completely blindsided. In-store, the very same Cruz Vodka was R319.99.

I even asked the cashier to scan it again, with and without the Checkers card ;still nothing. No special. No discount. No trace of the deal that was advertised online.

What makes it worse is that the Sixty60 app never once mentioned that this “special” was ONLINE ONLY. Had I known that, I wouldn’t have wasted my time, petrol, or patience driving out there.

But the real problem started when we tried to buy the special online using the stamps we’ve been saving all year, I might add only to discover we can’t use them on Sixty60.

Inside the store, we spoke to a supervisor at the front, then to Charl, the Perishables Manager. Both were polite, but both gave me the same answer: "there’s nothing they can do" .

So now I have to ask, why should customers spend their hard-earned cash buying stamps throughout the year, only to be blocked by online promotions because Checkers’ marketing team didn’t bother integrating stamps as a payment option on Sixty60?

Checkers/Shoprite is happy to take your cash and convert it into stamps, securing your money but when you try to use it, suddenly you’re treated like you’re asking for credit. It’s unacceptable.

I’m now sitting with R6,000 worth of stamps that I can only use in-store, while Checkers pushes online-only specials without clearly stating it.

Let this be a warning: before you spend your hard-earned money on stamps, make sure you’re putting it somewhere that lets you use it on every platform. At the end of the day, stamps are cash, not credit.

Shame on Checkers.
