Warranty not being upheld

Tried to return a Phillips Kettle that failed within 2 year warranty. Checkers Mall of Africa refuse to refund or replace, saying their walk in warranty is 1 year, and the 2nd year of the warranty is covered by Phillips themselves. Phoned Phillips 3 times now and they assure me they do not have any such warranty agreements with Checkers, and therefore Checkers themselves must honor the Warranty. Was the Warranty therefore false to begin with?
