Waiting...

I was at Checkers Grahamstown Monday (12:31 130317 C0039) and noticed on my till slip that I was over-charged for an item. When I pointed it out to the teller and showed her the price tag, she told me that it was my fault for not seeing it while she was ringing it up (which was because I was packing my own groceries, no packers as usual) and I have to go to the kiosk to get a refund. I said I didn’t need a refund and just wanted the difference back so I could get the item for what it was marked at. She insisted I need to go to the kiosk. When I got to the kiosk there were two other gentlemen there so I waited. Then a black lady walked up on the other side of them and I was told to ‘go to the other side’ and she was helped. I pointed out that I was actually there before the lady that was being helped. The lady behind the counter (Cikizwa Noqayi) told me ‘no, she was here first’. I waited until she was finished with the lady (which took quite a while) and told her that I saw two other gentlemen there and the lady was definitely not there before me. She shouted that the lady had been there earlier and had returned, which in my opinion doesn’t give her the right to cut the line. I told Cikizwa about the attitude of the teller saying it’s my fault for not watching what she’s ringing up. She told me in an aggressive tone it’s not her fault that the price is wrong. After receiving my refund I asked for the teller’s that had served me’s name and she made me wait another 5 minutes to tell me that she had to find out the name but I actually need to take this up with the pricing department as it not her fault. I told her again before walking out that that was not the point, I should not be made to feel like I’ve done something wrong, insulted and inconvenienced because I am not being charged the correct price for an item. I suspect most people end up just walking out after being over-charged as it’s not worth the huge hassle of trying to get their money back. This has happened to me a number of times and it is unacceptable that your customers be spoken to and treated in this manner. There is never a problem at getting a refund Pick ‘n Pay (even AFTER paying!) and feel like there is a system that’s not being followed, as it is clearly not working.
