VICTIMISATION OF CHECKERS

In South Africa, an average of 170 people gets caught shoplifting every day, according to the latest crime stats. But not all these cases are blatant acts of theft. Shoplifting can happen under various circumstances. There professional shoplifters, shoplifters driven by addiction, those driven by poverty, thrill seekers, kleptomaniacs and the absent-minded people who shoplift unknowingly. While the policy is to call the police at most retail outlets, store management should exercise discretion before involving law enforcement and pursuing charges or ******** prosecution. Absent-minded shoplifting is a thing... Store management should be trained to make a call. It becomes intent when you've left the store and [still decide not to pay after realising The managers should have the discretion to actually look at the [case] in it's entirety.

I am absolutely appalled by the way Checkers treats their customers On the 10 /09/2020 I went into checkers to purchase some groceries, I put a bottle of Vital chewable vitamin C tablets in my bike helmet, which was in the toddler seat. After paying for my groceries at16:06 Till slip number COO6S # 0027 I left the store, completely forgetting about the Vital chewable vitamin C tablets, as a result the alarm sensor went off and I was apprehended at the store exit, by the store security guard named Beauty. Why would I pay for groceries which came to R400-00 and ***** a bottle of Vitamin C tablets worth R124-99. Despite apologising for my innocent mistake and offering to pay for the Vital chewable vitamin C tablets, the security guard and the store manager refused and proceeded with the arrest. While I was in the security office the security guard couldn’t even write out a statement pertaining to my arrest, but instead copied from another statement and used this as her affidavit for my arrest. (have pictures to prove it ) While the security guard and the police officers were filling in all the paper work, I sent my daughter to get another bottle of Vital chewable vitamin C tablets and paid for them, so I fail to see how this was intentional as I didn’t try to disguise or hide the item in any way, it was not in my handbag, but was lying completely exposed in my helmet, and I hadn’t left the store per say as yet. This all comes down to the stores security guards meeting their arrest targets, which clearly influences the decision to apprehend accidental shoplifters. I feel victimised and traumatised at the behest of the security company employed by Checkers and the manager that was on duty, their bad judgement and lack of discretion has left me feeling totally disgusted in the way they treat a customer that has been shopping at their store for over 10 years and they have been prejudice towards me.
