Thanyani and controller lady very rude and inconsiderate

I Went to checkers hyper at Bryanston (Grosvenor), I needed to pay using my RCS card, I usually use my card at this store. I was helped by a lady by the name Thanyani. As soon as she was done scanning my items, I pulled out my RCS card to pay with, at this point she said she needed a controller for the card. I found this strange considering that I always use this card. Anyway, finally a controller lady comes and she asks for proof of Identification. I hand her my ID then she literally walks away with both my RCS card and my ID. At this point I was speaking to someone on my phone but I was very aware at how both ladies neglected to communicate with me regarding the situation. I stood by the till. Still not knowing what’s going on. Thanyani eventually walks away and starts keeping busy at a different till, leaving me at her till Alone and confused? I eventually walk up to her and I ask her “what’s going on?” Her response was literally “I don’t know. The controller needs to check things. She’s standing right there. You can go ask her” what does she mean she doesn’t know? She’s the one who asked for this lady to Come.

So I decide to walk up to the controller and as soon as I try to speak to her. She hands me the phone. On the other end of the line is a man who’s bombarding me with questions “confirm your cellphone number and home address etc”. He then explains that he’s a security check in order to make a purchase. This was explained to me By someone unknown over the phone but the two women in front of me failed to do so.

My ID and my card were taken away from me for minutes without explanation. When I confronted them they blamed me for the lack of communication because I was on my phone? I don’t understand how this is even a valid excuse because I literally walked up to Thanyani and I asked her Whats going on she said she doesn’t know. The controller lady did not even bother responding. She just handed me the phone.

This is so unprofessional and dangerous. ***** is a real thing and not even a teller or controller is exempt from being a suspect. How does someone walk away with another persons card and ID with no explanation?? How do I know that she did not duplicate my card or use my ID for whatever else? Not even an apology was offered to me. Born ladies just said “oh well.” Basically.

I don’t think this is how a customer should be handled. Especially Thanyani walking away and leaving me at the till all alone. No card no ID. even if I wanted to leave at that moment. I couldn’t because at that moment, they stripped that choice away from me.

Also, the controller lady was a bit rude in her tone and body language. Surely, this can’t be appropriate for the brand and the store considering that they are representatives at that current branch.
