Swindle at Glenvista Checkers

I bought a boneless gammon at Glenvista Checkers for New Year dinner. It weighed 1.8kg and looked in order on the shelf. However, while carving and eating it, a large block of fat appeared in the bottom centre of the gammon. There was no more meat left in this entire block, which weighed just over 400 grams. Together with the other fat that was part of what we had eaten already and which did not seem out of the ordinary, there was probably between 500 and 600 grams of fat on this gammon, or close to a third of the mass. That is not what I paid for and I felt rightfully deceived. I took a photograph and took the block of fat to the manager at the store, Glenvista Checkers. I met the senior manager and the assistant manager. After some debate, the senior manager mentioned something about a credit and the assistant manager took the block of fat to the butchery section. I followed. He disappeared inside the butchery and the butchery manager appeared after a while, looking a bit helpless. The gammon came from a supplier and was not something his butchery had prepared, but he was tasked with resolving the matter. He asked me for the purchase slip, or the barcode stub, neither of which I keep in the case of ordinary grocery purchases. Without these, he could not offer me a refund. He offered me another roast, which looked nice enough, but I declined the offer. It offends me that Glenvista Checkers management sells such products, deceiving their customers, and it offends me that management escalates the problem downward towards the butchery manager who did not prepare this ******* gammon. The butchery manager had been perfectly helpful to me on previous occasions; the assistant manager didn't utter a word during the entire process. Glenvista Checkers recently refurbished their store, but the improved look is not matched by their produce nor its customer service. Be careful what you buy there. Some of it is definitely not worth it.
