Stay away from Checkers Kloof Street in Cape Town if you can!

As a regular high spending customer I once again have to report that overcharging and expired or even rotten products on the shelves have rather become the norm than the exception when you shop at Checkers, especially in Kloof street, Cape Town. The service has meanwhile reached a level where you are hesitant to actually ask a shop attendant anything anymore... We realised today that we had been been overcharged yet again for a packet of coffee. We brought the slip back and when I humbly asked to be credited on my todays shopping for the difference I was faced with yawning female shop attendant who shrugged her shoulder and when asked again gave me attitude and told me to bring back the packet of coffee!!! The product was clearly mentioned on the slip I brought and a look at the shelf showed we clearly had been overcharged. Now instead apologising we were given the impression that we are the culprits trying to squeeze money out of Checkers and to feel guilty to disrupt the attendants daylight sleep. It was just ridiculous....We then asked for the manager, who equally wasn't very keen to follow up and when I asked if he at least can see that we were overcharged, he said "no comment"... We finally got the difference paid back with a lot of attitude. Even fellow customers shook their heads in disbelief upon such shoddy behaviour and service, throwing guilt instead of an apology! I have written to Checkers before about the remarkable downhill especially of the Kloof Street branch, despite the financially well off customers in the area. Rotten or expired products and yawning absolute uninterested yawning shop attendants, is this all the self praising Checkers can afford? I know, Checkers will now rush for damage control and promise a call back which will never happen anyway. We have been promised call backs many time, just empty lies. What helps is to go on twitter which we will due after this and this is when normally even the tick headed Checkers management will make an effort and might consider a call back. The only reason we keep on going against our principles and come back to thsi sinking ship called Checkers is because its the closest supermarket. We will in future invest in 500 m more travel and go to Spar or Woolworth, what a difference in product quality and service! Checkers doesn't give a damn anyway, but if enough customers follow us to the competitors we might see a change in order to prevent them from loosing more customers....Adapt or die!
