"Sorry, No Stock"- Take a RAINCHECK? Whaaaat?

<p>I did some shopping, as I usually do at Checkers, Da Gama Road, Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape. Despite it being "Black Friday", I was in to stock up for the weekend (we reside a few km outside town centre). Passing about six/seven amazing specials, and finding no stock on offer, I proceeded, as the items on offer was not really what I NEEDED (but found myself getting slightly annoyed at not being able to take up any of the offers). I wanted to purchase Brown Sugar, which was on special for +-R33 for 3kg, and AGAIN, no stock. I asked the help of one of the workers, I was directed to the "manager", who informed me that there was no stock (a mere 8 hours since special started, but running up until 4 Dec) and that I should take a "RAINCHECK" by writing my name and contact number in a book OR return by Monday/Tuesday to "see" if some more stock has arrived. I insisted that I needed sugar NOW, not next week, and that I would appreciate a similar/other available brand, at the same price. The manager refused point blank and shrugged his shoulders and walked away, when I complained that I had to purchase a 2kg bag at the same price/loosing out on the special. Shockingly, no double check in the store was done, no alternative solution nor an apology was offered. Did they order/stock 5 bags of the "special" for the weekend, (as it seemed the same case with most of, if not ALL the items on special offer). I am totally disgusted at what happened, the careless demeanor of the individual being addressed as "manager", and the shock that Checkers would even consider appointing a "manager" that cannot even "manage" stock, obviously totally uninformed of the Consumer Protection Act, who cannot take initiative, make a decision, or even communicate professionally, with the exception of repeatedly offering me a "RAINCHECK"??? Raincheck? Really, Sir? I paid my bill (close to R500) with a heavy and very unhappy heart. Suppose I am going to have to "check" my choice of supermarket in future, rainy days or not....Sies, man!</p>
