Shoprite Money Market Failure: Left Humiliated With Groceries Unpaid
I went to Checkers only to be embarrassed by the Money Market system. I have a voucher of over R1000 loaded on my vouchers account. At the Kyalami store, I tried to buy groceries but left empty‑handed after loading items into my trolley. I generated a code that I was supposed to use to pay from my vouchers, but it failed repeatedly with different error messages. I then tried to load my voucher card at the Money Market counter, but encountered the same errors. I was told to call the call center, which I did, hoping to resolve the issue. After more than 40 minutes on the call, all I received was an apology and the statement that they could not help me. I was told an incident would be logged with the support team and that it might be resolved next week—if I am lucky. To make matters worse, I was instructed to go back to the store and attempt the transaction again, so that I could take pictures to send to them. In this day and age, surely once Shoprite/Checkers has my account number and ID, they should be able to trace the failed transactions themselves. To say I was embarrassed to leave the shop empty‑handed after more than an hour in the store and over 40 minutes on the call is an understatement. I am livid. I want access to my vouchers immediately. I will stop using this unreliable Money Market system, as there is no guarantee that you can shop successfully even when you have funds in your voucher account. Shoprite must decide whether it wants to be a fintech company or stick to selling groceries.
