Refusal to exchange incorrect goods

I am so dissapointed with the service i got at Chekers Centurion Mall, Sunday 19th March 2023 i sebt kybson to go buy rice and mealy meal , it was around 16:15 abd th3y close at 17:00 sundays. He came back with sugar and rice , i aknowledge that was my teenage sons fault. But we kept tje receipt and i told him to go back the next morning to exchange the sugar for mealy meal they refused to help him . With the our financial climate as is , i would expect one of our biggest grocerry chain stores had sone return or exchange policy. I mean the sugar was still sealed and he had the receipt as proof of sale, he went back there within less than 24 hours. We now have so much sugar that i do not need and no mealy meal to eat for the week until payday. I am jusy hurt as and dissapointed as a regular customer of theirs
