Really unpleasant boerewors

I have not bought boerewors from a supermarket in 40 years. And only buy from butchers, preferably Afrikaners, they know how to make boerewors. Last Monday, 26 February 2018 two of the butchers that I buy from regularly were closed. I ended up at the 6th Avenue Checkers in Walmer, Port Elizabeth. Standing at the meat display deliberating which pack of boerewors to buy, I bought the “Championship Boerewors SA’s No.1 for 25 Years and the 2016 WINNER.” It consists of Beef 55%, Pork 31%, Lamb 6% and Water 4%, we are 4% short here and I don’t know what makes that up. We were going to have boerewors rolls for supper, something easy to make. This boerewors stank while I was cooking it, I said to my wife I haven’t bought wors from a supermarket for 40 years, and it smells exactly like it did 40 years ago which stopped me from buying wors at supermarkets. What do you put in your wors to make it smell like that when cooking? Once cooked I sampled it, and told my wife that I couldn’t eat it, it tasted foul. Tell me, have you ever had Nathaniel or Gordon Ramsay sample it?
