Racial Profiling at Checkers Hyper Sunningdale

On Friday, 17 April, my partner and I visited Checkers Hyper to purchase a toaster along with a few other essential items. We completed our purchase and paid in full at the till.

As we were exiting the store, a security guard stopped us and requested to see our receipt. While we understand that receipt checks may form part of store policy, what was concerning and deeply upsetting was that we appeared to be singled out. We asked the guard why only we were being stopped, and he responded that he had been instructed to escort us.

It was at that moment that we became aware that we were being racially profiled, with the assumption that we would ***** or had not paid for the toaster. This experience was humiliating, degrading, and completely unacceptable.

We were treated with suspicion without any valid reason, while other customers were allowed to exit freely without being questioned.
