Profits over staff health

I'm a regular customer of the Checkers in Brooklyn Pretoria: I went there on Saturday 13 July and found that the place is being renovated and that there are signs up all over, apologizing for the dust. It seems that Checkers / Shoprite are more concerned with their clients than the health and safety of their staff.

The manager there told me that she "did not force people to work under those conditions": meaning that if they did not want to work, they could go home. Seriously? If they went home, they would not get paid!

Shoprite / Checkers: give a damn about your staff and put their health above profits!
