****phobic, ***ist and classist. Absolutely disappointed!

On the 21st of March 2021 at 13:55 I made a purchase at Checkers Liquor Ferndale on Republic. Upon loading the plastic bags in the car, one of the defected plastic bags ripped from the bottom causing the liquor to fall on the floor. The bottle of vodka broke and the 6 pack of cider leaked from different holes. I picked up the 6 pack and headed back to checkers liquor and informed them of what had happened. I showed them the picture of the broken bottle and the damaged 6 pack. The security guard on duty made it known that this was a regular occurrence and that a number of patrons had been returning bought goods because of this very reason. The cashiers called Joseph Maphalla, who then arrogantly told me that he was the store manager. I told him what had transpired and he then proceeded to ask me how this was his problem. He told me that once I've paid for the goods, everything else becomes my problem and not his. He continued to be **********ly rude and slurred vernacular insults at me whilst speaking to his colleagues about ne in a manner that degraded me as a human being. He then decided to disregard my existence and told the security guard to go call Geoffrey in the main store. Geoffrey arrived and I reiterated the events that took place, including Mr Maphalla's ill treatment. I downloaded the South African Consumer Protection Act, scrolled down to the relevant clause pertaining to defected store goods, i.e page 56 section 20(1) and (2). Geoffrey Dzhaudzhau then said that unfortunately the act is against Checkers' policy so he cannot replace the defected goods. One of the cashiers made it known to Geoffrey Dzhaudzhau that myself and my wife are regular patrons of the store and that she was very fami**** with us. She also went as far as listing the regular items we purchase and that we are not people of a problematic nature. Geoffrey Dzhaudzhau in response to this then distressingly responded to the cashier by saying that he's not shocked that I'm a *******ual (the words used by him were less tactful) and that people of our nature are known for causing an uprawl about mediocre things like alcohol. I then asked him if he was aware of what he just said and he then repeated it to my face and said if you're a ***ot then you're a ***ot, I'm not lying am I. I told him I would not leave this lying down and that I would report this through the necessary channels. They then proceeded to offer me a bottle of whiskey for my silence and I obviously denied the offer. I honestly fail to understand how a large corporation such as Checkers allow for ****phobic, ***ist and classist individuals such as Geoffrey Dzhaudzhau and Joseph Maphalla to work for them. We are living in a time where femicide and Corrective ***ual Assault is the reality of many South African women. I myself, as a *** woman living in this country, am in constant fear of what the next sick minded person will do to cause me harm and its the words of people like Geoffrey Dzhaudzhau and Joseph Maphalla who perpetuate the actions of these individuals by making them think that its okay to hurt us because it's also okay to say things that also hurt us. As mentioned by the cashier, I am a loyal patron of Checkers and Checkers and my wife and I spend thousands of Rands on a monthly basis there. I am deeply devastated and disappointed by the actions of these two people and Checkers Liquour at Ferndale on Republic as a whole.
