meat on shelves after expiration date

I went to checkers hyper in Constantia Kloof on the 16/12/2018 did my grocery shopping bought lots of meat, upon cooking the meat and sausages I could get a sour smell, so I checked my packaging that I threw away in the bin, only to see the sell by date on the packaging was for the 03/12/2018 and did not have a best before date so I assumed that it should have been taken of the shelves after the 03/12, im really disappointed as this isn't the first time I have experienced this problem at checkers, the first time the burgers were off and now all this meat I had to throw away, what if I never smelt it or seen the dates, how can you guys keep expired stuff on the shelves, is it more about the money or the health of the shoppers, this is really pathetic, really disappointed, as Checkers is a Brand we all trust and would never expect things like this from you guys
