*********** Store Manager and Staff

Me and my husband went to the Checkers Rivonia Village branch on 29August to purchase an STK handset and were told that we needed an ID and proof of res to purchase a handset. We explained that we didn't need a SIM Card, we only wanted a handset for cash and the RICA rules did not apply. We requested to see the Manager and we were taken to a Ms Beauty Sgambi. When we got there she first humiliated the sales lady in our presence telling her that she must be capable of handling complaints and must not bring customers to her. The sales lady explained politely that we had requested to see the manager but she continued telling her that she knows the rules and must settle the matter. We then explained to her that we didn't understand why they needed documents to purchase a handset because we apparently had bought the same handset at Checkers Sunninghill branch without any documents. She was VERY ARROGANT and told us that we needed an ID and Proof of res otherwise she would not sell the handset. She called the Sunninghill branch and asked them the procedure and they confirmed that if a customer is not buying a SIM Card there was no need for RICA docs. Still she sent us away. We then saw the Sales Manager Mr Banele Mvangeli who was equally *********** and extremely rude. He told us that he was the Manager and he will not sell the handset to us. He had the audacity to tell us to go and buy the handset at PEP Stores! We went to the Sunninghill branch and they did not have stock but they managed to call the Checkers Head Office in Cape Town and clarified the procedure. Ms FC Greeff confirmed that we didn't need RICA docs just to purchase a handset. We would like to express our disgust at the two employees of checkers Rivonia Village Ms Beauty Sgambi and Banele Mvangeli for being ***********, incapable and chasing away customers because of their inability to understand the RICA requirements. Who knows how many customers they have turned away because of their attitude. Beauty Sgambi even left the counter saying she will not assist us since we were threatening to report her. What a bunch of losers!
