I was shocked that the Butchery staff at Checkers Wonderpark was packaging raw meat without protective gloves on 3 march 2026. In my case I purchased minced pork that was prepared and packed by a staff member that was not wearing gloves. I watched as I was there how the staff was packaging beef without wearing gloves, in fact, not one single staff member was wearing gloves

Based on South African food safety regulations (specifically Regulation R638), it is generally not allowed for staff to handle ready-to-eat (RTE) meat products with bare hands. While raw meat handling requires strict hygiene,, the regulations emphasize that food handlers must not touch foods that are ready to be consumed without protection.

Please let me know when it will be safe to buy meat from Checkers again.
