Checkers Hout Bay is by far the most customer unfriendly store in SA. Staff do not make eye contact, speak to each other over you. Do not listen to your request, Managers sit in the booths eating, make no eye contact with customers when there are problems. Insufficient amount of tills open. Tills are often unable to take a card or cash or not working. Surely there is a general checklist that is adhered to at the start of each day! (Just an example: Sufficient till rolls available, tills operational, (cash back rarely available as insufficient cash ever in tills) I have asked on many occasions for, at busy times extra tills to be open, with a response of "it's change over of staff". It's 5pm at their busiest time. The 'couldn't give a damn' attitude is expressed by most of the unhelpful staff with the exception of a delightful lady that works on the fish counter. Hout Bay Spar, PnP & Woolworths manage to employ local staff with a friendly attitude and helpfulness. Checkers this comes down to empowering your staff through customer care training, taking the necessary measures to ensure standards are met and taking procedures with the staff that do not meet them.
