Harassment by Checkers De Grendel security staff
I regularly use the Checkers in Burgundy Estate as it is 5 minutes from home, but recently I feel victimised and harassed to such a point that I would rather WALK 5km further and go to the Pick n Pay. I usually have my own bags that I take with and on a few occasions I have nearly lost it with the security in the store. One evening after unpacking the trolley the lady at the till asked us to use the next one as she was having a problem with the customer in front of us. No problem, we moved all our stuff over and the lady was not even halfway through scanning our items and some security comes over wanting to check our bags for ****** goods (this is ******* as we had not passed the till point yet and the woman was still ringing our items up) - this was done in full view of other customers and it was rather humiliating. On another occassion almost exactly the same thing happened, only I had some items in the bag from another store and again a security came to search my bag whilst the cashier was still ringing my items up. Again in full view of all the other customers but I showed the security the slip from the other store and the items which Checkers does not sell. Security said 'oh' and walked away. I thought that was that and I paid for my goods and as I was leaving I was rudely stopped again by security at the door and the one from the till joined him and again they wanted to search my bag and again I had to explain and prove to them that the items in the bag were items that Checkers did not sell.
This is public humiliation of a customer and false accusations of theft (especially when the searches are originally done before my items are all scanned and I've been given the opportunity to pay). Nevermind the evening where the security and another staff member followed me around the shop...to such a point that I just left my trolley there and walked out with no groceries for my family. It was my favourite shop for groceries for the first 6 years of me living in Burgundy Estate, but it is slowly becoming a house of horrors where I am embarrassed to go to because I never know what to expect expect. Is this truly the way you want your customers to be treated?
