#giftvoucherissues
Decided to shop using a R250 food voucher gifted by the work at Plumstead Checkers. At first my partner and I wanted to load the voucher onto a gift card to make sure it will work once we pay for our food. The voucher showed an error at money market. We proceeded to the express till to retry the gift card. The front end controller advised us that one voucher was already used and the other voucher did not want to load onto a gift card. She insisted we physically buy our food and then try the voucher instead of loading it onto a gift card. We were hesitant to go through all the effort of getting the food just to come back and the voucher does not pick up on the system. After getting all the groceries we came back to the express till to pay for the items with the voucher only to find out that the voucher still does not work. The system stated "return UNUSED voucher back to customer". We requested for a manager's assistance. Mr Ruiters the branch manager of Plumstead Checkers approached the till, did not greet.. Spoke directly to the cashier and controller without acknowledging us. He read the message on the system and repeated it back to us. We asked if there is any other way to redeem the voucher. He ignored the question and bluntly stated we should find another means of payment despite the voucher saying it is unused. He walked away without apologizing for the inconvenience caused. The cashier, think her name was Monique, apologized for the time wasted. We paid for the food but felt highly embarrassed standing in a line going through a situation we wanted to avoid. I believe Checkers' moto is "no customer to leave the store unhappy" well we left highly disappointed and dissatisfied.
