Extremely Disappointed with Checkers Hyper – Need Help to Handle This Situation

I’m feeling beyond disappointed with my recent experience at Checkers Hyper, and I truly feel like I’ve been let down. On 19/12/2024, I bought a bike for my son at Checkers Hyper Eastgate for R1299.00. The store assistants assured me it was the right size for him, and I trusted their guidance. But soon after taking the bike home, the seat kept sliding off, and my son’s excitement quickly turned into frustration as the bike chain kept falling off. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the panels started coming loose, and when I checked closely, I found rusted parts. The bike was literally falling apart. On 11/01/2025, I returned the bike to Checkers Hyper Eastgate in the hopes of resolving the issue, but I was met with nothing but disappointment. The customer service agent called the bike manager, who claimed the bike was in too bad a state and couldn’t be accepted back. The area manager, Vincent, added that only the frame had a guarantee and refused to offer a replacement, despite the bike being barely a month old. What’s most frustrating is that there was no documentation or box outlining any guarantee when I purchased the bike. It was already assembled, and I was trusting the advice of the store assistants who told me I was making the right choice. Instead of getting a quality product for my son, I ended up with a bike that fell apart in a matter of weeks, and now I’m being told there’s nothing that can be done. I am incredibly disappointed in how Checkers Hyper has handled this, especially after spending my hard-earned money on what was supposed to be a special Christmas gift for my son. I feel completely shortchanged, and I’m unsure how to move forward. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Any advice on how I should handle this situation?
