EGREGIOUS CUSTOMER TREATMENT AT CHECKERS GORDONS BAY MALL!

I had the most unpleasant experience at Checkers Gordons Bay Mall two days ago. I wanted to buy a brick of Kasselshoop Cheddar cheese. I picked up a brick of the cheese, but it was covered in green mould. I thought it was an isolated case, but then I found another, and another and another brick, 6 Kasseslshoop cheddar cheese bricks in total that were covered in green mould. I looked for assistance, and after waiting for about 25min, there was no one around to assist me to whom I could report it. Other customers walked by and saw the cheese I was holding and was utterly appalled by it's condition, one exclaiming: "is this the quality of Checkers cheese, then I should shop elsewhere" . I then decided to go in search of someone, a merchandiser or any other staff member i could find, and after about 30min, I eventually got hold of the manager of the cheese aisle, Washiela, I recall. She explained to me that the green mould was as a result of the fridges being switched off for some time during a power outage. She told me she could not give me a discount, but would speak to the branch manger to see if a discount could be granted for me. She asked me to wait for her, and I did. I waited for an additional 40min, but then I did not hear back from Washiela, and there was still no one in the aisle to assist. I then just gave up after dawdling around, waiting to get some feedback, and I left the store, unhappy and disgruntled.

I think Checkers Gordons Bay Mall needs to employ more staff (merchandizers) on the floors as that seemed to be an issue for them. Secondly, whatever happened to the "customer is always right"? Now it seems they just avoid customers perceived as difficult, not that I was being difficult at all. In fact I could have really thrown a tantrum and attracted other customers if I wanted to make scene. Alternatively I could have reported this Checkers to the food and health inspectors for unsanitary conditions in the store, but I did not.

All I wanted is redress and consideration for customers when in the store, especially as one detects anomalies such as of the above-mentioned nature. I believe I and all other Checkers Gordons Bay Mall customers are owed an apology.

Unhappy customer
