Dishonesty at Checkers Riverside mall.

10 Sep 2021 Dishonesty Checkers Riverside Mall I feel a little offended and very much cheated following my experience at Checkers Riverside Mall in Nelspruit.

I bought a bottle of freshly squeezed orange juice. A small bottle. There were big bottles and small ones on ice. When coming to the till point they told me there is no bar code and that they will have to print a bar code first. A lady came with the code and sticked it onto my bottle. To my surprise the price showed R19,99. For such small bottle of orange juice it looked too much. The price tag mentioned 500ml. But the bottle didn't have any indication of size but looked smaller than 500ml.

I queried this and told them that to me it looked like a 350 ml bottle.

The lady at the till point called the man who was doing the price tags. He told us that this was definately a 500 ml bottle. I said that I can't believe that. But I was working and my lunch time about to finish so I had to take my food and orange juice and go.

Later today, arriving home I already drank the very expensive bottle of orange juice and decided to check whether this was indeed a 500 ml sized bottle or not.

I filled it with water and then emptied into a measuring jug. The contents of this bottle was exactly 350 ml, and NOT 500 ml as insisted by the guy pricing the stuff.

So now I am sitting here wondering how many other eople got cheated witg the same thing in thinking they buy 500 ml of juice whilst it is actually 350 ml.

I am mucj disappointed that such misleading and dishonest marketing happens at Checkers, which I always saw as my favourite supermarket.

And if that was not enough, at the same time I bought reading glasses that was on promotion.

The glasses was inside a pouch. On the pouch the lens strength is displayed and I took one that was labled 2.00. When arriving home I used this glasses to write this complaint about being cheated with the orange juice. But when I put on these new reading glassed I found I couldn't see a word.

Then I noticed the small sticker on the glasses itself showed it was a 3.50 strength. So the wrong glasses were inside the pouch that should have been a 2.00.

I can understand that maybe a mistake happened putting the wrong glasses into the wrong pouch, and it is not as blatant as the price man confirming and assuring us it definitely is a 500 ml orange juice.

The main problem with this is that I only worked in Nelspruit for the day and that I do not go to Nelspruit a lot and stay quiet some distance from there, so I cannot drive all the way back to querie this.

But about the orange juice incident I feel this is reall bad making customers believe they buy 500 ml in stead of the actual 350. This is actually ******** to me, especially after quarying the matter, still I was told an un-truth.

I guess I lost only a few rands but I am wondering how many people does get cheated that way.

I still have the small little bottle and barcode stating it is 500ml.
