Disgusting service at Checkers, The Glen

Disgusting service at Checkers, The Glen, JHB South.

We made our way to the tellers after some late afternoon Saturday shopping. The cashier tried ringing an individual pack of instant cappuccino, only to tell us that they're not sold separately, as there was no bar code for it. This didn't make sense, as there was individual pricing and open boxes on the shelf. The packer returned eventually with another one that rang through successfully, only after we had to ask for help.

Then the fun started. I purchased 4 rump steaks, with 3 of them being rung up successfully. The final one apparently wouldn't register. The cashier rang for management assistance easily 20 times, but to no avail. Eventually I took it into my own hands to retrieve another from the shelf.

I then went to seek a manager to try and ascertain as to why we hadn't seen a single senior representative on the floor during our entire shopping experience (enjoying the after-rugby celebrations perhaps?). I made my way to the back admin office, where a manager (Simphiwe, seemingly the back-office manager) and manageress were sitting behind computers. I knocked on the door and after first receiving looks of utter disgust and shock from them, Simphiwe made his way to the teller. He enquired with the cashier in a very non-chalant way, asking "what's the problem?" The cashier explained that there was an issue with the bar code. Without responding, he then turned away and walked back to the office. That was the extent of his concern and assistance. Perhaps a bit of a "not my job, no my problem" attitude?

This seems to be a regular occurrence here, as the cashier and packer then commented how they (management) want customers to return, but regularly show no concern in customer service.

Horrible experience from this branch on a day when we all should have been in high spirits.
