************** and Poor customer service

I have never been so disrespected and ridiculed by anyone quite like Joyce Tau from Checkers Hyper in Vanderbijlpark. First of all I work in the service industry and know how a client/customer should be treated. How we were treated was shameful and discriminatory!

I arrived at Checkers Hyper to purchase an item or two needed for dinner. When we got to the till and was about to have my items checked, without any explanation, the cashier instructed me and my partner to the next till. Alright, we move onto the next till without any explanation. When we get to the next till, your cashier Joyce Tau, again without any explanation instructs us to the next till– I then exclaimed “what is going on” because we keep being passed around like kids without any explanation whatsoever. She rudely and abruptly snaps at my partner and I telling us she won’t be disrespected by poor *** men who don’t know what they want in life. Now I’m not sure if it’s in your company policy to be that discriminatory towards minorities in a country where prejudice against *******ual individuals still prevails . She could have just explained from the get go why we needed to move to the next till but no, instead she made a mockery of us in-front of other customers and her fellow colleagues. She even raised her hands on my partner when we confronted her uncouth and deplorable behaviour. We then requested to see her manager, even then Joyce Tau persisted to talk over us and her manager, this made me realise that her behaviour is normalised within the branch because how then was she able to talk over her manager like that!

I need to understand if this is how such a big company allows their staff to be prejudiced against minorities, if this is what’s in the core values of checkers hyper! I have never felt so belittled and ridiculed by someone old enough to be my mother like that! I’m utterly disappointed at the service my partner and I received today!

There are countless individuals out there would take up Joyce’s position and actually do their job with grace and respect. If she doesn’t want to work with customers she must excuse herself so others could be afforded the opportunity to be able to put bread on their table.
