Delayed merchant banking

I purchased items from Checkers Hyper Eastgate on 30 October 2017. I received an sms notification from my bank for goods purchased at Checkers Eastgate on 19 December 2017 on 20 December 2017 for an amount of R2191.12. Concerned I contacted my bank and was advised that this purchase related to the pur hase of 30 October 2017. How is it possible that I am billed almost two months later. Such an inconvenience caused by Checkers incompetence and I am certainly not a happy customer as this amount was nit budgeted for and it was not as if the funds were not available two months ago!
