********** Customer Service Experience
After a long day at work, I decided to go ahead and try to get some bills paid on Friday 26/04/2024 to ensure I was able to attend a family funeral without any worry on Saturday. After attending to what I needed to I entered Checkers Hyper Gateway in order to pay my RSC credit card through easy pay. This is how I've done it since I got the credit card, I didn't have to do any grocery shopping and so I held the line at the Kiosk as I also needed my smokes and thought I can do the payment once off.
The time was between 19:40-19:45, it's late, I know I've had a long day so fairly the employees are probably also tired, as I joined the line, the gentleman in front of me let me know the line was closed, lol my mum worked in retail for over 40 years and I also had my fair share on the till so I looked to the cashier who proceeded to let me know it was okay for me to continue, I knew it would've been BS if he had turned me away but I'm glad he was not only professional but also just responsible enough to understand that I was a customer who needed to be served. He let me know when I was buying my cigarettes that I needed to pay at the money market for easy pay. Okay now I must join a new line. I'm not going to cause no drama, there is 2 people before me at the money market, I'll wait, not like I'm rushing anywhere.
As I walk towards the line, there are 4-5 cashiers at the money market desk, 2 of which look like they are now clearing out and getting ready for the cash office, one cashier, is asking if anybody is looking to send money, I'm guessing like cash send because both the ladies before me needed cashback(which I found out when I got to the line). So I greeted, "sawubona Sisi"(as is courteous in our culture) "I want to pay for my credit card through easy pay".."I'll be using my debit card to pay". Her answer was "join the line" not necessarily rude but you could see she wasn't interested if I wasn't bringing cash(she had a customer at her till, so I'm going to be reasonable). She then proceeded to ask 5-6 times for the next 5 minutes, with no new people in the line, if there was anyone who needed to put money. Aibo, there are 3 cashiers who are literally just walking up and down at the money market not serving us but you can see their tills are still open, now I'm getting annoyed because I can see that they are avoiding serving us. A manager walks to help one of them, I allow her to help/instruct 2 of her cashiers, I mean it's close of business, they know what they normally do but what happens next is the reason I am forwarding this complaint. I then call the manager from the line and my words exactly " Sorry but can I get someone to help me out, I am looking to pay my credit card through easy pay, I will use my debit card, they(the cashiers) keep asking for people putting cash but I don't think what I want to do would need me to wait for a cash customer" next to the manager was Nomcebo Nene, the rudest young lady I have had the unfortunate pleasure of having to deal with. She stood next to the manager giving me eyes of daggers while I spoke, so instinctively the manager turned to her but honestly I don't understand whether she was scared or what but she a few seconds later got herself together and said something to this Nomcebo Nene, to which having not been responded to continued to explain that there are 3-4 available cashiers, I understand one is looking for a cash customer but why are the others not clearing out the line to which she interrupted and said "Syakuzea Sisi"(we hear you lady!) in the rudest tone. The manager asked Nomcebo to proceed to assist me. She then asked what I would be using to pay to which I rep**** "I will be using my debit card and this is the third time I am saying this". She continues to look at me like an animal. At this point I could literally F#¢k her up because it took her all of 5 minutes to set her till up, even though it was still available, she proceeded to ask for my easy pay details whereas she could have just scanned it, she asked for my details i.e. my cell number, initials and surname and took almost a minute to turn the screen around to check my details and was just completely rude, she treated me like she was doing me a favor, I haven't felt so disgusted since September last year when the same manager I complained to on this occasion was scolding cashiers at the till in front of us customers. It's obvious that Checkers Hyper Gateway has a customer service issue and that is sad considering that they serve so many communities. This complaint however is about Nomcebo Nene, she is disrespectful, she is not properly trained and obviously is not in retail for any other reason besides a salary. Now you can wake up to get paid, I give a damn why you are at work but you better take your job seriously and you better treat even the cleaner with as much respect as the General Manager of the store. As someone who is raised by someone who worked in retail(Makro SA) and as someone who has worked in customer service for over 9 years and continues to deal with walk-in customers. I am disgusted, I am angry, it's now Tuesday morning and I am still upset because, Nomcebo continued to treat me like dirt as I made my payment and I had to take it because I knew I may not get a chance the rest of the weekend.
Trust me when I say I am going to be waiting on a response in the next 48 hours about what will be done regarding this as I have emailed Customer Care, I want to know what training she has had, I want to know what steps Checkers has taken thus far to train this young lady if this is how she treats customers, I want to know what action will be taken to correct this and most importantly I want an apology from Nomcebo Nene because, I will escalate this to National Head office for Checkers, if I get no help, I'm going on Hellopeter and when all else fails I am going to Consumer Goods and Services Ombud, mind you by this time I would've already made this public on as many social platforms as possible.
I have many many problems as is you who is reading this and the person next to you, we all *****ed and life is life(ing) us all but we don't take it out on people, most importantly at work because that is our bread and butter, therefore I will continue to escalate this until Ms Nene learns that respect at work is not earned, it's compulsory.
Kind regards Aura
