Covid 19 protection of emoyees

Just heard that Checkers head office orders their employees who have to work during lockdown,not to wear masks or gloves to serve clients comming into stores, should checkers not strive to protect their staff and clients from covid 19....we all know that masks and gloves does not really protect you, but should they not at least try to protect their staff from obtaining the virus as they do handle food products that might come from different infected regions, we know that this is serious,and these employees also have families to protect. Clients shopping during lockdown can also carry the virus... I am just concerned that checkers are more concerned about image to the public than employees...It is the employers duty to protect their workers or am I wrong...I just feel that all people still working with the public must also be protected against any risks of infection...
