Complaint Regarding RACIAL PROFILING Incident at Checkers 14th Avenue

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding an incident that occurred at your Checkers store located on 14th Avenue on 26 September 2025 at approximately 08:10 AM.

As a regular customer, I have always expected fair and professional service. However, my recent experience was deeply disappointing and distressing. On that morning, I entered the store to purchase sparkling water—a product I buy frequently, particularly the Eastern Highlands brand. As it was unavailable, I opted for an alternative.

Upon exiting through the pet store side entrance, I was approached by a female security guard who asked me to remove my earphones. She then requested to search my bag. I found this encounter humiliating and deeply unsettling, as I believe I was subjected to racial profiling. It is disheartening to experience such treatment in South Africa, three decades after the advent of democracy.

I am a daily shopper at your store and work within walking distance. To be subjected to such an incident so early in the morning was both shocking and unacceptable. I respectfully request that this matter be thoroughly investigated and that appropriate accountability measures be taken. I strongly believe that had I been a white customer, this situation would not have occurred.
