Checkers selling rotten food to the senior citizens in the Eastern Cape

Checkers Ngebs City in Umtata, sold expired Choice Assorted biscuits to my chronically ill mother. The biscuits were sold to her on the 15th of November 2024 while they have been expired for over a month. The expiry date on the box is 10 October 2024. After my mother went to the store to complain siting her health and the risk they put her through, the store manager just refunded her and set her on her way. I think this is the pits of customer service. In the current context in South Africa's reported food poisoning cases. Its disheartening how nonchalant the store manager treated my mother's case. We just do not know the effects of the expired food on her given her health and Checkers thinks a refund is sufficient. Its a shame.

After contacting Checkers customer care (ref: ***) the best they could offer her is a R500 Checkers voucher. This is after she spent R200 on transport and subsequently R1300 on visit to the doctor.

It is a real shame how Checkers chooses to treat our senior citizens first by exposing them to food poisoning and then insulting them with the worst customer service I have ever seen. This customer service seems to be reserved for people in the Eastern Cape.
