Checkers Liquor Metlife Plaza pathetic customer service

When trying to make a purchase at Checkers Liquor Metlife Plaza, Port Elizabeth today we were very disappointed and quite taken aback when we were told by the cashier that we must wait for the manager to do an override in order for us to pay as the purchase we made was over R1000. We waited and once again I asked where is the manager and they could not find him/her. The cashiers did not seem perturbed which led us to tell them to cancel the sale of R1100 as we could not waste time waiting for a manager they could not find. I said what a stupid practice of getting an override - if cashiers could not be trusted to do their work then clearly there is a problem at that store. We told them we would rather go shopping at Makro, no problem. Needless to say we also found out later that the product we intended to buy was on a special where you received a free cold drink for each bottle and we intended buying 2, cashier made no mention of telling us to get our free cold drink. I wonder what happens to all the freebies that the customers are not given? Very poor customer service. I guess we will not be shopping at that store ever again.
