Checkers does not value health and safety!!!

Checkers has no regard for health and safety. I am living in a residential apartment block next to Checkers in Kloof Street, Cape Town and their industrial-sized generator is situated in the parking lot right below our apartments.

One cannot sleep through the noise and the generator comes on at any time of day or night when load shedding occurs. The carbon monoxide emissions are visible as plumes of black smoke from the exhaust and they fill our apartments within minutes if we don't get to close the windows in time.

Checkers has no regard for the residential neighbours in the area. It is disgusting that a multi-million rand corporation can have such little regard for its neighbour's health and safety while it has the financial means to remedy the situation.

I was at the Cape Town Mediclinic on Friday night, just 700m up the road, when load shedding hit and one could not hear a peep from their generators. That is an entire hospital, there to save lives and it is powered by generators that are not making noise.

I spoke to their technical team who said they are using industrial generators that do naturally make noise but they had a company called Africa Insulation come and in to silence their generators and make sure they are in adherence with residential guidelines regarding noise and carbon monoxide emissions.

That is an entire hospital of 5 or 6 stories/floors that has several generators to power the building, yet they have found a solution that does not disturb the neighbourhood.

Can Checkers please have the same courtesy and silence its generator and get it within residential guidelines? Please get a company in to do this as soon as possible as this situation is critical to residents positioned right above this generator who cannot sleep at night for the noise and who are forced to inhale carbon monoxide emissions.
