Checkers - Constantia Emporium - SOLD BAD MEATS!

On the 31st of December 2020 I visited the new Constantia Emporium store with high hopes as friend’s have been raving about the selection, the experience and high quality and variation of meats. I have not been visiting stores and so this had been my first shopping experience for December where I’d leave my home and do in-store shopping. I use Sixty60 quite regularly and so I have had very little need to visit any store. But since a few friend’s recommended that I visit I took the trip. There were great covid 19 protocols followed, queues with social distancing etc. the store was quite congested however I continued with my shopping experience.

I was pleased to see the wide selection options and ended up doing my monthly shopping.

My bill came to over R3000 and I happily paid since I had now done everything for the month of Jan.

To my GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT as I was unpacking my groceries I found meats that expired on the day and packaging that was opened and the meats were smelly. I planned to braai that evening for New Years Eve however needed to throw away lamb chops, bacon, chicken!!! I was horrified and emailed checkers. Till today I have not had a single response to my email. I am planning on visiting that store again! I am extremely disappointed as I purchased for the entire month however there have even been meats with the correct date but after I’ve defrosted it and opened and cleaned the meat it just stinks!! I don’t know how they chose to preserve the meats or the movement and packaging because packaging was also torn in small areas and then you can see the discoloration of the meats. The store was full and busy and the meats area was busy and I truly did not feel the need to inspect my food as I selected the portions I wanted. People were gathering and so I took my selection and moved on.

I expect a call, an explanation, a reimbur*****t because I ultimately needed to purchase my goods elsewhere. Honestly I’m not a checkers fan, I’ve shopped at pnp for years. Checkers looks to have done some great rebranding and great marketing, the convenience of Sixty60 bought me over but I’ve not had these experiences at Pnp in all my years of shopping there. I just ended up taking the drive to pnp ro*****ad, a small yet convenient store that I got good quality safe products!
