Checkers Cascades - Lack of Communication results in Poor Customer Service
Last week Thursday 25 June 2020, I went to my local grocery store (Checkers at Cascades Lifestyle Centre) to do my grocery shopping. I always shop here as I have always received excellent customer service. I arrived at 11:20 so I would be in time to collect my daughter from her school around the corner at 12:15. When I walked towards the store I noted the doors were completely shut and there were no staff. I looked for a notice on the doors and there was nothing. I waited 10 minutes and then decided to inquire at Pick n Pay Clothing if Checkers was open. The sales assistant in Pick n Pay stated they were open but that all staff were being screened and she was not sure when or if they would re-open. Why didn't someone place a notice on the door or place the first screened staff member that was clear at the door to inform customers what was going on. Despite this negative experience I decided to return first thing on Friday morning at 8am when the store opened. I arrived and again the doors were closed with no staff and no notice anywhere. After 5 minutes what appeared to be all staff walked past the front of the store and then just stood there. I asked one of the staff members what time they were opening and she asked me to ask the manager. I walked to the front of the line and asked the manager if they were going to open soon and his response was just ,"we are trying". What does we are trying mean to the individuals who have places to be and have now returned to the store for the second day in a row. I know that the current situation is fluid but Checkers have always placed a high level of importance on customer service. I am extremely disappointed by the lack of communication and lack of professionalism not to mention the frustration of experiencing this two days in a row.
