Checkers Bredasdorp : Caveat emptor : Let the buyer beware!

I suspect many of my complaints apply to Checkers as a whole but this review applies specifically to Checkers Bredasdorp, where I have shopped on a weekly basis for the past five years. On the positive side, the store is clean and well-stocked. The demeanour of the till staff has improved noticeably of late... at one stage it was really very poor, especially when compared with the till staff of the Spar down the road.. Now, at least, most of them make an effort to greet you when you arrive at the till.

However, the maxim: CAVEAT EMPTOR (Let the buyer beware!) applies to this store more than any other store I have experienced. I realize that a certain number of errors in pricing and stock control are inevitable. But in Checkers Bredasdorp - if you don't want to be ********** - you have to watch them like a hawk! You need to scrutinize every price, every special offer... double check it, triple check it... just to ensure that the price or offer refers to the article above it... It probably does not, or the shelf appears to have been deliberately packed to deceive and confuse. When you have done this and are sure that you have the right items in your basket...you need to check the price of items rung up as well as the till slip itself.... especially specials or offers. The chances are... 50% or more ...that there will be a discrepancy... way, WAY beyond what is reasonable. Poor management. Poor management, from the top down. I am pretty sure Checkers top management accepts or condones a given percentage of errors/inefficiency as inevitable "JA NEE, A LOT OF CUSTOMERS WILL BE FRUSTRATED AND UNHAPPY. BUT AG, THEY'LL BE BACK, THEY'BE BACK!" IT'S THE BOTTOM LINE THAT COUNTS. I suspect that many store managers welcome this percentage and push their luck way beyond it. Some of them don't push at all... they are just slack.

These people know that only a relatively small percentage of shoppers are careful and check their prices and till slips. For those of you who, out of necessity or principle, are careful with your money or who just don't like to be **********: you need to be doubly careful in Checkers Bredasdorp!
