Bought off chicken and potatoes/sell by date wrong

I bought very off chicken and a bag of potatoes from them. The sell by date said 29/11/2015 so i assumed they were still fine. That was going to be our sunday lunch. If my toddler ingested that he would get very sick!! I am appalled!!
