Old cake

Today I bought a piece of caramel velvet from the shop in Ballito and to my suprise the cake wasn’t fresh as it was real dry very dry from the normal once which is very nicely wet but this one is like a bilyong cake a real rock. How long does they keep the cakes once openned.
