I would not recommend staying at Chartfield Guest House in Kalk Bay
I would not recommend staying at Chartfield Guest House in Kalk Bay. Their policies are extremely rigid and clearly focused on money—no refund of deposit, full payment required on arrival, and a no-show means you’re charged for the entire stay. At check-in, the receptionist was very pushy about paying the full balance before even giving us the room key. Thankfully, I refused, which meant I only lost my deposit. We were then given conflicting information about our room—first told we’d move to a “De Lux” room after one night, then two nights. The story kept changing, and no one seemed to know what was actually happening. When the owner finally showed up, he didn’t introduce himself or try to resolve anything. He simply stated there would be no refund and that we had to pay in full if we stayed. Overall, a very unpleasant, money-driven experience with poor communication and no regard for customer service.
